Word of Wisdom

6/2/11 – First of all, we want to thank the RC; the weather was not ideal and they got the races off. Also, a huge shout out to Ripped and Dark and Stormy for staying out for the second race. The wind was out of the northish approximately 340 degrees blowing 25-30mph. Since we raced inside and it was blowing out of the north, the wave action was minimal. Probably the best 30mph racing we can have. The boat was probably a little under tuned for this wind since it was a little deceiving at the dock how much wind we had. We tuned for WOW and should have been at WOW +2. Uppers at 30 and lowers at 31. The first race started clean, and the wind ended up being stronger to the west side of the course. We probably crossed the center more times then we should have. It was also very streaky and deceiving when the puffs were coming. On the first weather leg the decision not to fly the spinnaker was made after we wiped out twice and watched the J80 wipe out with the spinnaker. The breeze was lighter at the top of the course, but the tide seamed to be setting up out. The second windward leg was equal to the first. All three boats were very close to each other. Learning points from Thursday were the need for more Vang and make sure your jib cunningham is hooked up.
